Finally! It's Alive!

After nearly 3 months, DuroMedia v1.0 is launched.

This site started out as my first foray into the new world of CakePHP. Since starting this project I have spent far more time working with CakePHP on other projects, leaving this site on the back burner. Let me just say, I think I'm in love.

Using Cake I have been able to put together a custom CMS for DuroMedia that I must say I'm pretty happy with. The site is still a work in process. If anyone reading this notices any bugs or improvements that could be made, please feel free to contact me.

A Brief History...

Before DuroMedia, there was Dandelion Graphics. Dandelion Graphics has been my freelance DBA since 2000. About 6 months ago I decided to change the company's name. I felt DuroMedia better described the services that I provide.

Dandelion Graphics began when I was more focused on being strictly a designer. Shortly there after I was bit by the development bug, which quickly became my primary focus. DuroMedia is meant to showcase this passion for development and design.

So What's Holding This Popsicle Stand Up?

As I mentioned before, the site was built with a CakePHP backend. One of the trouble I found with my old site (and I assume other web pros can relate to this) was that it was huge pain in the ass to update my portfolio items. Thus, it became outdated real quick. So I built a portfolio CMS. Makes things a lot easier.

I also have always wanted to have a place where I can share my constant learning related to the Web industry. So I built a blog. That's this thing you're reading right now :) Rather than going with a Wordpress blog, I decided to construct my own. This way I can add features easily and use it as a place to continue to learn more about CakePHP.

Wrap it up already!

Alright, so if any of you are still reading this most boring blog entry, I'm hoping that you will join me in smashing the proverbial champaign bottle on this ship. Please leave your comments below. I hope the content that begins to churn out of this project helps others, as it has surely helped me.

Thanks!
