Get out of your T-Mobile Contract

So after a 5 year relationship with T-Mobile, I've broke it off. Why? Well why else, to get the new iPhone.

With a year left on my contract with T-Mobile, I was able to get out with no penalty, and pretty painlessly as well.

Here's How I Did It

So I hopped on Google and with a little searching I found what I was looking for. Some were recommending turning over my contract another person. Others were recommending everything from complaints to saying you were dead.

Then I found the golden ticket. Since T-Mobile is raising their text messaging rates from $0.15 to $0.20, a stipulation in their contract states that any increase in price that is made that impacts you financially is grounds for you to cancel your contract without penalty. So as long as you don't have an unlimited text plan, and can show that you have sent text messages in the last 30 days, you qualify.

Here are the steps I took:

  1. First I went to the Apple Store and got my iPhone.
  2. I initiated and completed the phone number porting process.
  3. Then I called T-Mobile, mentioned the text messaging increase and what the terms and conditions stated, and asked to cancel. They tried to sell me on a different phone and offered to block text messages, but I declined. Five minutes later I was a free man.

That's it. Three easy steps. So what are you waiting for. Do what all the cool kids are doing, and sell your soul to Apple.
